Did you catch the last sentence of the prior
paragraph? It's a milestone for Viper Troop! We've actually made the
decision to start the process of getting one of our Cobra's back into the
air. 80-23517 Our newest F model. It only has 2,015 hours on
it. Was flown mostly by the Washington NG. Last flight was Sept. 99
and was preserved for storage in Dec 01...............can't wait to hear the
whop whop whop.
Christmas party was a huge success! Had about
85 people show up and devoured some great ribs cooked by CSM Vernie Nance -
"Good chow! Vernie!" had about 9 or 10 new members as part of the
VHPA chapter we're sponsoring. Jr. Buffalo Soldiers showed up and showed
us up!!!! Sure have a bunch of strac youngsters in Alpha Troop
HOOAH!
Here's one of the reasons we need to always wear
our recruiting hat. Through a yahoo group I belong to I ran into,
(on-line) a fellow Vietnam buddy, Mike Hudson! So I asked him to come to
our first chapter meeting - found out he lived within 10 miles of me for the
last 20 or so years. In telling Jack about him, Jack realized that he
lived within a couple of blocks of Mike and in fact had taken his last Huey ride
with Mike when they ferried it to Bragg. SO who knew??? Recruit
recruit recruit!!! Look in your own back yard! There's over 600
Vietnam Veteran Helicopter Pilots in the state! Can you imagine how many
crew members there could be??? And don't forget the troops that have
retired since Vietnam (damn that makes me feel old)
Here's a picture of me and Mike. He's the
gray haired guy on the left! Luv ya Mike.........
Need more reasons to attend the meeting? See
the Cav Troopers in the chow line below? They're Jr. Troopers of A Troop, our
Buffalo Soldiers - teenagers! Learning respect, discipline, and
history. We need to grow so we can help more kids. Check out those
Cav hats!
Here's a picture of our Bravo
Troop Commander, RangerDave, presenting a Golden Spur award to Frank
Weick a true Killer Bee.
And chow! For the party we had bbq
ribs, burgers, hot dogs, and all the trimmings! It was good.
I'm expecting another half dozen or so
new guys so help me make them feel welcomed.
See you at Drill!
