SITREP  July 2009

1. Last months drill was great!   With a newly constructed Tow bar (Thanks Larry and Paul) we were able to move all of the Viper Den's aircraft out of the hangar.  That enabled us to give the hangar a good cleaning and rearranging.

2. Our new SF guys did a jam up job of washing down our two display aircraft, 352 and 520.  They sure made the high gloss paint really shine.  Plus they looked real sharp in our Charlie troop shirts and Army aviation hats.  Pictures are on the website.  (URL address later).  Jack and I spent some time today going over 567 to determine the paint scheme for our new Special Forces Aviation aircraft. We think it's going to turn out awesome.  Hopefully we'll have a draft mock up by drill.   The Marine Corps M151A2 "MUTT" , previously utilized  by the CFF Bravo troop "Killer BEES" will be assigned to the SF team to support SOaR.  We're going to install radios so that the SF recon team can contact the aircraft as it's inbound to the LZ (school) that they've set up ahead of time.  Can I hear a HOOAH!

3. The Lake City contingent arrived in style last drill.  What a way to make a first impression - 3 helicopters!  Danny and his partner's son each brought up a R22 and Ricky brought his R44.  Thanks guys.  It's nice to to hear the swish swish and whop whop of spinning rotor blades but I still can't wait for the tick tick tick and the whine of a jet turbine.............. Ricky was kind enough to fly Vernie and I think Paul back to Lake City to check out their facilities; at the municipal airport as well as Cock Field.  They both got passing grades.  Ricky was also nice enough to give my father-in-law Bill Gambrell and Mike Loy our photographer a ride around Camden and to take some nice shots of our nest of snakes sunning themselves outside!  Bet the Israelis we're having a field day focusing their satellites

This time Lake City should bring a truck and trailer as they have more stuff to take back home.

4.  Rudy and Claude both flew in with their fixed wings  A few of us were  fortunate enough to get a ride in Rudy's beautiful Gullwing Stinson.  Claude wound up taxing all around the airport and I never did get the chance to find out why.

WE HAD A MINI_FLY IN!!!  Sorry you missed it!

5.  Aviation lost another hero last month. Captain Paul White of Camden and Honolulu pasted away, read his Obit at the link below

7.  We have misplaced some of our banners that we display at our various functions.  The three vertical banners that depict our SOaR mission (see last warning order) as well as a sponsor banner for the Johnson company.  We've looked everywhere and can't find them.  Last seen at Thunder prominently displayed in the CFF hospitality tent.  Please contact Anna if you know the whereabouts.

8.  I'm happy to report Anna has returned from Montana and is back at work - Thank you Jesus!
